Understanding Identity

100 Portraits in 100 Days

Several years ago my daughter Ruby asked me why I never drew portraits.  My response: "Because I can't." Needless to say, she then questioned how I knew I couldn't draw portraits if I'd never tried! To cut a long story short, this led to a deeply reflective period in my life where I revisited - in an artistic sense -  many of the people I had had the privilege to meet on my travels; sages, saints, nomads, kings , queens and tribesmen and women  the world over. I documented my progress daily on social media, sharing poignant memories in an effort to further celebrate each individual and their culture.

Please enjoy a small selection of my drawings and posts from this project, which was proudly sponsored by Canson (the paper I use) and Schminke (my favourite pastels)
